Dolphins Basketball Club of Lagos battling with the Customs BC in the semifinal of the on-going Zenith Bank Women Basketball League Super Eight ply-off. The Wale Aboderin girls will meet First Bank in the final of the competition… today.

Dolphins Basketball Club of Lagos star, Patience Okpe, believes her team will beat First Bank, also of Lagos, to retain the Zenith Bank Women Basketball title. The final of the competition holds today at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, by 4.00 p.m.

Speaking to The Guardian after Dolphins’ defeat 74 to 53 points defeat of Nigeria Customs to qualify for the final of the championship, Okpe, who is also a member of the national women team (D’Tigress), said as defending champions, much is still expected of them, adding that basketball fans would expect her team to re-enact their performance of last year.

Although Okpe admits that the game against the ‘Elephant Girls’ will be tough based on First Bank’s pedigree in the game, she boasts that Dolphins will neutralise their opponents.

“Since the championship began this year in Abuja, we have been approaching all our games with total commitment. As defending champions, people will expect us to be under pressure, but I can assure you we are poised to confront any challenge First Bank will throw at us.

“Dolphins have all it takes to retain the league title. There is no course for worry,’’ she said.
Meanwhile, Dolphins are expected to pay a courtesy call on the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Peter Amangbo today, at their corporate head office in Victoria Island.
