Mental Health and Wellbeing

The health and wellbeing of women are fundamental to the strength of any society. At Sheroes, our Health and Wellbeing program is dedicated to ensuring women and girls have access to comprehensive healthcare, vital health information, and the resources they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.

About

Our Health and Wellbeing program takes a holistic approach, addressing critical health issues that disproportionately affect women and girls. This includes reproductive health, maternal and child health, mental health support, and prevention of common diseases. We organize health screenings, awareness campaigns, and workshops, and facilitate access to healthcare services, especially in remote areas. We also train community health workers and advocate for policies that improve healthcare access and quality for women.

Our Impacts

The Health and Wellbeing program has significantly improved health outcomes in target communities. We’ve seen a reduction in maternal and infant mortality rates through our prenatal and postnatal care initiatives. Our mental health workshops have helped destigmatize mental illness and provided crucial support to women facing various challenges. Thousands of women and girls have received essential health screenings and vaccinations, leading to early detection and prevention of illnesses.

  • Promote mental health awareness and provide access to psychosocial support for women.
  • Empower women with knowledge to make informed decisions about their health.

Key Focus Areas

As women constitute half the population, their health and well-being form the foundation for societal growth and development. Investing in women’s health and wellbeing yields significant social, economic, and cultural benefits to society.

This is why SR4DI focuses on deconstructing the barriers affecting women’s health for the benefit of their families and society.

Mental Health

Nigeria faces one of the largest absolute mental health burdens in Africa, which is characterized by severe resource shortages, deep-rooted stigma, and growing policy attention amid ongoing challenges. SR4DI aims to redirect attention, awareness and action on this mental health epidemic with a focus on women and youth to drive policy action and implementation.

Work-Life Balance

Nigerian women struggle with work-life balance, especially those in a career trajectory, due to a series of factors like cultural, structural, and economic realities. As achieving work-life balance is critical in health and well-being as well as career success, SR4DI have developed a series of programs, projects and trainings designed to help women achieve that.
