These kinds of attacks are not new: it is one of the severest challenges women continue to face in Nigeria. Ensuring women safety is a very important requirement of every society; unfortunately it is not so.

Many attacks on women continue to happen daily in Nigeria;  and these perpetrators intentionally target women.

According to the United nations report on femicide, every 10 minutes, a woman is killed, a reality woman and girls around the world face. However, Africa has the highest number of femicide and intimate partner violence.

Still, femicide continues to be under-reported, dismissed or silenced. This is an urgent and collective call to action.

Leaders, activists, citizens and government agencies must take the responsibility to make the necessary policies, actions and decisions that will bring an end femicide in Africa and across the globe.
