Another Honor for Dr. Ngozi Okonjo‑Iweala

Esteemed economist and Director-General of the World Trade Organization Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala,  has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, one of the college’s highest distinctions.

The ceremony was led by Professor Dame Madeleine Atkins, President of the College. During the event, there was also a wide‑ranging discussion on global challenges where Dr. Okonjo-Iweala expressed her gratitude to the college, especially to Professor Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger and other members who played key roles in facilitating the honor.

 

She described the day as both solemn and inspiring.

 

This award adds to a significant collection of international recognitions for Okonjo‑Iweala, underlining her long record of leadership in global trade, development finance, and public policy. She now has more than 25 international honorary awards, making her the first Nigerian known to reach this milestone.

Observers note that this fellowship highlights the growing influence of African leaders in global governance. Among her many prior accolades is the 2020 LEEX Woman of the Year Award, awarded in recognition of her role as a trailblazer in leadership and public service.

Dr. Okonjo‑Iweala continues to set the standard for excellence, inspiration, and service on the global stage.
