The 2026 edition of the Global Mentoring Walk (GMW), organized by Sheroes Rising for Development Initiative, successfully held in Kaduna on 18th April, 2026 brought together women leaders, professionals, and emerging changemakers for a morning of mentorship, leadership engagement, and network building at Murtala Square.
The Sheroes Rising Global Mentoring Walk is a global leadership initiative designed to foster mentorship, professional development, and leadership opportunities for emerging leaders through structured conversations during a guided walk.
The initiative creates an informal but impactful environment where experienced professionals mentor young people, helping to break traditional barriers to mentorship and making leadership guidance more accessible.
Following the success of its 2025 Abuja edition, which united men and women leaders in a 90-minute exercise of mentoring and impact, the 2026 Kaduna gathering further expanded the initiative’s reach by creating stronger mentorship connections and amplifying women’s leadership across Northern Nigeria. The event served as a platform for aspiring leaders to engage directly with experienced professionals on career development, personal growth, and leadership pathways.
Held in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026, the event was organized in partnership with the Maryam Babangida Centre for Women Development, Kaduna State Media Corporation, and other partners. It featured notable women leaders and professionals including the Director General of the Maryam Babangida Centre for Women’s Development, Asabe Vilita Bashir; Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Kaduna State University, Prof. Maryam Abdu Omoniyi Salami; Founder of NEAT Micro Credit Bank; and Executive Director of Kaduna State Media Corporation, Ben Kure, among others.
The walk focused on bridging the mentorship gap by connecting mentors and mentees in meaningful conversations that encouraged growth, relationship building, and professional advancement. Participants described the event as a remarkable opportunity for impact, networking, and long-term leadership development.
Sheroes Rising noted that the 2026 Global Mentoring Walk was not just a mentoring exercise, but a powerful platform for building relationships, inspiring future leaders, and strengthening women’s participation in leadership spaces across Nigeria.
