The Enugu State Police Command has arrested Mrs. Chisom Okonkwo for false rape accusations against her husband, Mr. Ozioma Okonkwo, both residents of Enugu State.
Mr. Ozioma was arrested on October 25, 2025, following her accusation of him sexually assaulting his two underage daughters.
However, after medical examinations were conducted, the report confirmed that the girls had not been defiled, contrary to the mother’s claims.
Acting on the findings, the Commissioner of Police ordered the arrest of Mrs. Chisom for defamation and giving false information.
Investigations further revealed that the couple had been facing unresolved domestic issues prior to the incident. A police source disclosed that during questioning, the children confessed their father never assaulted them but that their mother had instructed them to lie against him.
The case, filed at the Enugu Magistrate Court under Charge No: CM/861c/2025, lists the Commissioner of Police as the complainant and Chisom Okonkwo (29) as the defendant. The two-count charge borders on defamation of character and providing false information to the police, offences punishable under Sections 325 and 154(1)(a)&(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State of Nigeria, 2004.
The charge sheet alleges that Mrs. Okonkwo publicly accused her husband of defiling their daughters, thereby exposing him to hatred, ridicule, and loss of reputation. It further states that she knowingly provided false information that led to his arrest and detention by the police.
Mr. Ozioma, a native of Imo State and resident in Enugu, expressed shock at his wife’s actions, saying he initially doubted she could mastermind such an allegation. The case has since drawn public attention, with authorities emphasizing the need for due process and caution in handling sensitive allegations of sexual abuse.
