Metrowoman entrepreneur of the week: Stephanie Obi

Stephanie Obi, the CEO of ST HUB LIMITED, is popularly referred to as the Queen of Online Courses, because she helps women entrepreneurs to create, launch and sell online courses. She is also the founder of Steph B-School, an online business school that helps women entrepreneurs to get more customers online. Through her website,, she has impacted over 82,000 people in over 10 countries, teaching them how to change their lives and change the world by leveraging on the internet. With more than 500 people enrolled in her online courses, she has developed a proven system of creating irresistible online courses, and selling online whilst impacting lives.
She is a First Class graduate of Computer Science from Covenant University and holds an MBA from the Lagos Business School.
She has been recognised as one of the 100 most inspiring women in Nigeria, and won First Prize at the Wimbiz Impact Investment Competition. She speaks at notable conferences and has been featured on various platforms including Channels TV, The Guardian and Punch Newspapers, Social Media Week, EbonyLifeTV, etc.
She loves to sing funny songs and to write short stories that have business lessons.

What problem does your company solve?
We solve two problems: We discovered that many people take their knowledge for granted and don’t know how to monetise it because it comes easily to them. Meanwhile, there is a ready market of people who need this knowledge and are looking for help. We help these people to package their knowledge into profitable online courses, and to sell them with ease.
We discovered that there are so many brilliant entrepreneurs who are hidden because they are shy, don’t know how to use tech tools to build their brands online and don’t know how to communicate with people in such a way that they can patronise their products. We are solving this problem by providing these entrepreneurs with a collection of tech trainings, marketing strategies, and visibility challenges so that they can build their audience online and easily get more sales
How did the idea for your business come about?
I used to make Ankara accessories and I felt the urge to teach others how to do it. In a bid to grow my business, I started marketing online and I got a lot of requests from people who lived outside Lagos. I decided to create an online course for them, so that they could have access to my trainings irrespective of where they lived.
Today, the rest is history. This course was taken by in over nine countries, and I have gone on to create over 20 online courses.
We now help other people who also want to create their own online courses, and people who are struggling with putting themselves out there, for people all over the world to patronise them.
What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?
What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?
Not launching the right products: I learnt that I had to always test the market and give people what they want, not what I think they need. Not growing my audience constantly: I learnt that in order to keep growing my business, I needed to get in front of new audiences constantly. There was a point in my business where I got too comfortable with where I was and did not grow my audience…let’s just say, my sales suffered.

How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?
I don’t give up per se, I just look for what I can tweak and try again.
What motivates you?
Turnaround stories from my clients.
It makes me feel like the work that I do matters and it encourages me to do more.
The vision we have for the business. We want to see more people empowered to achieve their full potential because they have the skills they need to succeed.
How do you generate new ideas?
I look at what people are struggling with, and I come up with solutions for them based on their pain points.
