The Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre is a sexual assualt referral centre established to serve as a place where victims of rape and gender base violence get free medical, legal and psycho-social interventions.and bring respite to victims of sexual and gender Violence who would otherwise be suffering in silence and alone.
The centre which is located in the southern part of kaduna state says it is dedicated to about breaking the silence and providing adequate support and care to survivors of Rape and sexual violence, and had since recorded about 1245 cases out of which 1054 involved women, secured 7 convictions with 3 life imprisonment for sexual violence offenses ranging from rape, defilement, indecent touching, sexual exploitation, and sexually suggestive remarks amongst others.
Recently, the manager of the Salama Sexual Assualt Referral Centre in Kafanchan Mrs Grace Yohanna Abbin identified the culture of silence and community interference with rape and other related abuse as the major obstacle in the fight against SGBV.
 To stamp out this ugly menace in southern kaduna, there is the need for strong synergy between the centre and key stakeholders such as the traditional and religious leaders.
She commends the Nigeria Early Recovery Initiative for its’ critical interventions which enabled the centre to embark on advocacy and sensitization tour to chiefdoms, Emirates, and communities across jema’a and kajuru local government areas to sensitize the communities, especially women and encourage them to speak out whenever they are violated as well as office equipment and other essentials like beds, communication gadgets, televisions and computers.
Mrs. Abbi expressed gratitude to the Kaduna state commissioner for Human Services and social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, the council chairman of Jema’a local Government Mr. Peter Danjuma Averik for their encouragements and support to the centre.
